"Our MISSION is to improve the well-being of Elders and those who care for them by transforming the communities in which they live and work."
We support residents, but completely respect their freedom and independence. We ensure that we provide meaningful and enjoyable activities that promote wellness, friendship and a sense of community.
All of our staff spend valuable time each day with residents. For example, one of our cooks enjoys computers, so he assists residents with this. Other staff join the walking group daily and garden with residents. It is much more like a true family, and the staff love having time to do something different and enjoyable.
Hayworth Living
The Alexander Mackie follows the Hayworth Living concept. Some of the key principles are as follows:
- An Elder-centered community commits to creating a Human Habitat where life revolves around close and continuing contact with plants, animals and children. It is these relationships that provide the young and old alike with a pathway to a life worth living.
- An Elder-centered community honors its Elders by placing the maximum possible decision-making authority into the hands of the Elders or into the hands of those closest to them.
- An Elder-centered community imbues daily life with variety and spontaneity by creating an environment in which unexpected and unpredictable interactions and happenings can take place.
- The opportunity to do things that we find meaningful is essential to human health.
